Winter Frocks 1946

To make your own from Simplicity patterns. Here is a contrast of the last incarnation of wartime design on the left: A slim dress with knife peats, shirtwaist style with no collar and slim sleeves. Matching belt and tucks on the shoulders for fullness, contrasted with the result of the relaxation of austerity rules on the right. Big shoulders, full sleeves set into deep armholes, and all round pleats and fancy contrast belt - definately the influence of Hollywood in this one.

The simple elegance of the war years!
One could easily imagine Princess Kate in the dress on the left... and looking just marvelous!
